Synopsis

Synopsis Christen Ortega is a teenage boy who is infatuated with the idea of old love and romance. The new age of social media, smartphones and hook-up culture does not appeal to him in the slightest. Born into a normal, working-class family, Christen is a boy who does not necessarily stand out. He is confident, well spoken, popular and attractive. This short film follows his climactic journey and realisation of the world he is living in. He seeks a genuine, raw human connection, but falls flat on his feet every time. This is due to the harsh reality of his generation, which is that they are consumed entirely by social media and hook-up culture. He goes on multiple dates, which he cherishes and even abandons his phone for. Each of these dates go terribly, with his counterpart spending over ninety percent of the time on their phone. Depict Evaluation What was the task? The task was to create a ninety second movie for the Depict.org short film competition, held annually. Depict is an organization that has been uncovering and showcasing filmmaking for over twenty years. Watching some Depict winning short films briskly wetted our filmmaking appetites. With Depict as a driving force behind the project at hand, we got to work, the £2500 first place prize money seemed very handsome, and more importantly, the valuable industry exposure. But every film, ninety seconds or three hours long, needs pre production, thus we immediately got to work on our roles within the team (who's doing what?) . With all this taken into consideration, we needed an idea, or at least some groundwork for our movie. What was the idea?
